Most types of financial aid require students to be degree seeking, so it’s important to enroll in courses that will count toward your degree. Once you have completed all academic requirements for your degree, you will be considered non-degree seeking, and financial aid options will be limited, regardless if you have formally graduated.
Program of Study Completion Policy
- If you have completed all academic requirements for your primary program of study (major) and are only enrolled in coursework required for a minor, you may not be eligible for most types of financial aid. However, if the primary program of study (major) has an academic requirement that you complete a minor(s), then you can be considered for financial aid, since you would be unable to earn your degree without completing those minor requirements.
- If you are pursuing multiple majors that will only lead to one degree, you will be considered non-degree seeking once you complete academic requirements for one of the majors.
- Undergraduate and graduate students must maintain at least half-time enrollment (6 credits undergraduate/5 credits graduate) in coursework required for their degree program to be eligible to receive federal student loans.
- Undergraduate students who are eligible to receive federal grants should contact the Office of Student Financial Aid to review minimum enrollment requirements.
- Students enrolled in courses that do not apply to their degree program may be eligible for an adjusted amount of federal student aid if they do not meet the full-time requirements (12 credits per semester).
