Verification Document Deadline Policy
In order to retain priority aid as part of an award package, the verification process must be completed by December 1st for Fall admits and returning students and March 1st for Spring admits. Priority aid at Iowa State includes Iowa State University (ISU) Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) and Federal Work-Study.
In order to retain federal aid (Federal Direct Loans and Federal Pell Grant) as part of an award package, the verification process must be completed by whichever is sooner:
- within 120 days of the student’s last date of enrollment
- by September 1, 2025
Students selected for verification after financial aid is disbursed will have future aid placed on hold and will have institutional need-based aid (ISU Grant and Supplemental ISU Grant) charged back if the verification process is not complete. The following deadlines apply:
- Students selected for verification in Fall Term after aid has disbursed will have a hold placed on Spring Term aid. Verification must be completed by May 12th, 2025.
- Students selected for verification in Spring Semester after aid has disbursed will have a hold placed on Summer Term aid (if applicable). Verification must be completed by May 12th, 2025.
- Students selected for verification after the last day of Spring Term will have a hold placed on Summer Term aid (if applicable). Verification must be completed by September 1, 2025.
If the verification process is not complete, based on the deadlines listed above, State and Federal aid may be charged back based on the respective regulations for each aid type.
